Understanding Quarters Legal

  • We act as your part-time General Counsel—handling commercial legal work, contracts, and compliance with none of the overhead of a full-time hire. We also act as your on-demand senior legal support for overflow work, adhoc or project support.

  • A fractional General Counsel is a senior lawyer who supports your business part-time, helping with legal strategy, documents, risk, and more.

  • We work with founders, owners, franchisors, SMEs, PE-backed and fast-growing businesses, large organisations and operational teams who want reliable legal support that keeps up with them.

  • We have expertise working in a range of sectors such as retail, leisure & hospitality, media and advertising, FMCG, franchising, technology, professional services. We understand how your industry works and we know how to apply our skills and knowledge to your business.

What we offer

  • A whole range of commercial business related services including commercial contracts (drafting, reviewing, negotiating), consumer law, data protection, risk and governance, regulatory and compliance, legal operations and strategic legal input, tailored to your business.

  • Both. You can start with a short project (like a contract review or a compliance check) and upgrade to monthly support later.

  • Absolutely. We often work alongside in-house counsel or other advisors. We also have some go to specialist law firms we know should the need arise and we are more than happy to introduce you to.

  • We would love to do everything for you, but we know there will always be certain limitations. Sometimes we will recommend a traditional law firm is used in certain scenarios. For example, we are not able to undertake litigation for you nor can we undertake activities related to the buying/selling of shares under anti money laundering regulations.

    We also do not currently have our own internal employment lawyer or property specialist. This is similar to most in-house teams, who manage these key areas in a different way. We can assist you with working out the best way forward for your business with these.

Pricing and Packages

  • We offer simple monthly packages and fixed-fee projects. Visit our Pricing page to see options.

  • No. All our packages are rolling month-to-month. Cancel or pause any time. However, we may make recommendations for minimum terms, in order for you to receive the full benefit of our services.

  • Dedicated legal support, a set number of hours, email/phone access, strategy sessions, and priority turnaround. Everything tailored to your business. Please note that we primarily operate during normal working hours. Out of hours emergency work may incur additional charges.

  • A senior in-house lawyer costs more than salary alone. Once employer NIC, pension, bonus, benefits, recruitment, IT, know-how resources, training costs, paid absence and productive working days are taken into account, the effective day rate can be higher than many businesses expect.

How we work

  • We will get back to you within 24 hours to set up a call to assess your needs. We can be ready to go once we are all happy to proceed.

  • We believe in consistency and deep knowledge of your business. You will have a primary relationship lawyer, who may be supported from time to time by other team members. You will still receive a great level of service.

  • Email, video calls, Chat —you choose. We will always look to be able to plug into your workflow.

Tech, Compliance & Credentials

  • Yes—for drafting efficiency and consistency. But everything is reviewed and tailored by a qualified human lawyer. We do not use AI tools that will use your confidential information to train them. We are actively trialing various new AI tools and keeping pace with the changes in the current legal tech landscape.

  • Yes. All work is carried out by experienced UK-qualified lawyers with full professional indemnity insurance. Please see our Regulatory section for further details.

Trying us out

  • No problem. We’ll guide you through how it works. We’re more commercial, proactive and embedded than a typical law firm. We are looking to build great relationships that work.

  • Yes. Clients often start with a one-off piece of work to see how we fit in.

  • We make recommendations based on the law, commercial reality and our experience. This is a risk based approach aligned with your attitude to risk and your goals. We focus on helping you move forward safely—not just blocking decisions.
